Foam Hare Klink

Fly: Thomas Züllich, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Partridge 15BNX 'Klinkhamer Extreme' (de-barbed)
Thread: Gordon Griffith's super fine 14/0
Abdomen: Hare hair from Hare's mask spun, in split thread dubbing loop
Post: Closed Cell foam
Thorax: Black Antron dubbing Wing
Hackle: Hare hair from Hare's mask spun, in split thread dubbing loop
Note: This pattern is a variation of the very known Klinkhamer Special, a very clever pattern in my opinion. However, I prefer a body made from hare in a split thread, as this seems to be a more sturdy way of doing it. Also Bob Wyatt's DHE (Deer Hair Emerger) is certainly an inspiration for this fly. So what I tried is to increase the float-ability of the patterns I combined here. Even so hackle looks better in a fly box, it doesn‘t suspend the fly as well as a hackle substitute made from hare does. I tried using antron for the post, but this isn‘t working so well so I went over to using foam. Now this fly does it pretty much all for me. It is fairly easy and fast to tie, floats well and most important - fish like it too ;-).
