Purple Commoner

Fly: Thomas C. Duncan, Sr., Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Partridge Bartleet, #2
Thread: Red 8/0
Ribbing: Silver oval tinsel
Body: Silver braid
Hackle: Purple spey hackle
Collar: Teal
Wing: Bronze mallard slips
Note: A quick, easy spey fly that is easy to adapt to many different conditions by changing the braid and hackle colours. This was initially designed after losing a few "Purple Kings" that had taken a good deal of time to tie. This is not so regal, hence called a "Commoner", and does not provoke the same heartbreak if it winds up on a log or under a rock.
