Pattern information:

The counter-ribbed tinsel is optional if you think the stem of your hackle will hold up. Keeping the body slim is crucial because the palmered Claret hackle provides a "glowing" silhouette. The body dubb here is Burgundy Iridescent Dubbing by Ronn Lucas, Sr.

The colour Claret has been regarded as an excellent colour for Salmon flies for centuries. Today, however, there are few patterns that include this shade.

This pattern follows the basic design of the classic "Claret and Black" Trout wet fly with a few changes to make it more palatable to the larger anadromous species. It works well in all seasons, and has been particularly useful in cloudy water on a wet-fly swing. During the summer, using this fly on a riffling hitch can sometimes be as close to a certain thing as you can get.
