Partridge & Olive

Fly: Tim Didas, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Any wet fly #12-20
Thread: Uni 8/0 olive
Rib: X-fine silver or gold wire
Body: Pearsall's Gossamer Floss, separated. Tie in one strand midway between the hook point and barb, or for the illusion of a smaller fly, without sacrificing hooking ability, tie in point is above the hook point
Thorax: Tiny amount of hare's ear dubbing
Hackle: Grey partridge. One or two turns

Notes:

A good fly to fish when trout are taking BWO's on tough water with complex currents-the water that is very frustrating to fish with a sub-20 dry fly. Fished upstream and allowed to swing at the end of the drift, it can save the day over "picky" fish on tough water.
