Fly: Steve Williams, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Orvis/Partridge Dryfly, #12
Thread: Danville's 6/0, Olive
Tail: A small clump of snowshoe hare foot hair, dyed with gray Pantone marker, slightly shorter than the body length. Topped with several strands of bronze mallard slightly longer

Wing: A looped clump of snowshoe hare foot hair, dyed with gray Pantonemarker
Throat/hackle: Brown mottled grouse hackle

True story: This pattern came to me in a dream one spring on the AuSable River in Michigan, when the Browns were being especially fussy. To fish it, dress only the loop wing with dry fly floatant and fish it in the surface film. I now carry this pattern in a variety of colors and sizes
