Hendrickson

Fly: Steve Williams, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Orvis/Partridge dry fly #12
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer silk--Primrose
Wing: Lemon wood duck flank
Tail: Medium blue dun spade hackle barbs
Body: Naturally pink stained fur from the crotch of a red fox vixen
Hackle: Medium blue dun

Note: This is the Art Flick version of the female Hendrickson mayfly, tied true to his pattern as described in his book "Streamside Guide". The pink stained fur used for the body is often discussed amoung fly tiers.

Some say that it really makes a difference in the fly, some say it doesn't. Some even say it doesn't exist. I can assure you that the pink stained fur does indeed exist, though I have my doubts that urine is the cause of the staining. I have several small patches of the fur and the color of the fur varies a bit from patch to patch. The color of the fur used for this fly is what I consider to be typical....a uniformly fleshy pink color.
