Green Gotcha

Hook: Standard saltwater, size 2 Mustad 34007 or similar
Thread: Yellow Kevlar Thread
Eyes: Bead Chain; small silver
Body: Green Fish Hair, White Fish Hair, silver tinsel and peacock herl

Tying instructions:


  1. Place the Mustad size 2 34007 hook in your vice.

  2. Tie in the yellow Kevlar Thread behind the eye of the hook.

  3. Tie in a strip of silver tinsel and wrap to the bend of the hook and back to the eye and tie off.

  4. Tie in a small section of white Fish Hair that is ½ as long as the hook. Place a few strands of peacock herl on top the white Fish Hair and tie off.

  5. Place a small section of green Fish Hair on top of the peacock herl and tie off.

  6. Put a very small drop of Krazy Glue on top of the yellow Kevlar thread.

I like to fish this fly with a heavy 15’ sink tip line on an 7 wt. fly rod. I use a leader that is 5-6’ long when I am fishing for pinks and chums in salt water.

Cast the fly out into the water where you see the fish jumping. Let it sink for about 30 seconds. Start stripping the fly towards you in 1’ strips. Usually you can see the pinks, chums chasing this fly.
