Monte Smith

Hello, my name is Monte Smith. I work as a business operations director for a small software company in Oregon, USA.

I am fortunate to be surrounded by a number of great fishing waters: the McKenzie, Metolius, and Deschutes rivers, the Cascade lakes. Throw in a few local streams and stillwaters, and I have many places to pursue my favorite outdoor activity.

Though I was introduced to fly fishing in 1977, I didn t tie my own flies until about a dozen years ago. It is now a full-blown obsession! I enjoy tying many types of flies - from delicate trout dries to tubes, Waddingtons, doubles, Speys, Dees, full-dress salmon; my interests are fairly wide-ranging. Trout flies are where it all started for me, and I enjoy nothing more than packing my gear each summer and hitting the Interior lakes of British Columbia with my father. Some of my favorite flies from my overloaded trout boxes are displayed here.

I make my home in Halsey, Oregon with my wife Julie, son Connor, and daughter Meagan.
