Mark Libertone

I was born and raised in New York State, where I still live today. My interest in trout fishing led naturally to an interest in fly-fishing and fly tying. I began this part of my fishing education at age 14. My formal education consists of earning a B.F.A. in Art and a M.S. in Art Education. I currently work as a freelance graphic artist and illustrator and some of my artwork has appeared in Fly Fisherman Magazine and in other publications.

While I tie dry flies and fish them, I am very partial to the soft-hackle wet flies and flymphs. I find their versatility and simple construction very appealing. As I learned in art school, sometimes less is often more, especially in fly fishing for trout.

I currently live very near the Genesee River and fish it every opportunity I have. I currently hold the secretary’s office of my local Trout Unlimited chapter, teach fly fishing and fly tying, and often write articles about this beloved pastime for our local newspaper. I am married with five children and nine grandchildren..
