Note: A staple in most Atlantic Canadian fly boxes, the Black Bear series has a number of colour variations in the tag, usually green, orange or red. Tail options include black hackle, pheasant crest or no tail at all. The wing is often a substitute of black squirrel tail or monga and the tag and rib may be silver or gold, depending on the tyer’s preference. Most people use silver, but some of the older patterns indicated gold tinsel.
