John Gordon

I was born in 1964, and have fished my entire life. I started out in the Pacific Ocean and on the piers of Southern California. Eventually, I fished my way around the world, some of it courtesy of the United States Navy. I began fly fishing in 1997, tying flies in 1999, and building rods in 2000.

In 2007 I qualified as one of the top ten fly fishermen in the Rocky Mountain Region. This earned a spot in the USA National Fly Fishing Championships competing for a place on Fly Fishing Team USA. I did not make Team USA (this time around), but enjoyed the paths that lead me to the National Championship.

I reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. I fish wherever I can, but mostly I fish the Southern Rocky Mountain Regions of New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. I began developing my fly fishing skills on the world renowned San Juan River in Northern New Mexico. I have spent a good deal of time figuring out the intricacies of the San Juan and other tail water fisheries. You will notice that many of the patterns I have presented reflect the small midge and baetis insects that are so prevalent in these tail water fisheries. In these areas, it is very common to fish size 22-26 flies on 6X tippet. Although my fly fishing is diverse, the fly boxes containing my collection of small flies always seem to strike up a conversation wherever I go. The thought of catching large trout on small flies and small tippets intrigues most fly fisherman. If I can help in any way please don't hesitate to contact me Flyfishnfool@gmail.com
