Pass Lake (wet/dry)

Fly: Jason Freund, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 900BL, TMC 102Y or equivalent
Thread: Black
Tail: Brown hackle fibers or golden pheasant tippet
Body: Fine black chenille
Hackle: Brown
Wing: Calf tail, trude style
Head: Large tapered, coat with head cement when finished to produce shinny head (example not lacquered)

Notes: Another Wisconsin original though I don't know the exact origins of this fly. The fly in the photo is fairly close to the original dressing. Options I've seen are: golden pheasant tippet for the tail, few strands of Krystal flash in the wing, dubbed body instead of chenille, tying in the hackle after the wing (more of a classic trude style fly), and tying on various hook shank lengths for larger wet flies and even streamers.

Can be fished wet or dry (or as a streamer in larger sizes). To fish as a dry, treat the wing with a paste floatant. The chenille body will make the fly float in the film. Also effective as a wet fly or fish dry until the end of the drift then allow the fly to swing in the current like a wet fly. A very effective brook trout fly though I know many people who swear by the fly on spring creeks.
