Fly: Jason Freund, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 200R or dry fly (TMC 900BL, 102Y)
Thread: Black
Abdomen: Black and brown Haretron dubbing mixed in equal parts, dubbed thickly
Underwing: Black Elk hair
Overwing: Turkey wing feather, treat with Flexament
Head: Elk hair tied bullet style
Legs: Flat rubber (or use knotted pheasant or use hair from the head as legs)

Notes: Modified from Ross Mueller's modification of a Tom Wendelberg pattern. Dub a thick body. I prefer Haretron dubbing for the sparkle antron gives the fly. For the head, I dub over the butts of the elk hair to create a neater fly and to increase the bulk of the head. Also, instead of a standard bullet head, I prefer to split hair in half, pulling each half to the sides of the hook.
