Emu Nymph

Fly: Jerry Caruso, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Tiemco 2488 or Tiemco 101, size 10-14
Thread: Black
Weight: lead wire in Thorax area
Tail: Emu
Body: Emu
Wingcase: Either Flashback or Peacock Herl
Thorax/legs: Emu

Note: What to do with a bag of Emu Feathers. The idea was to tie a fly using just one feather. Tail is a some Emu hackle barbs. Wrap the lead wire and flatten. Tie in the Wing Case. Tie in the Emu feather by the tip and wrap forward, tying off just behind the eye. Bring Wing Case forward wrap down and build a thread head. Trim the feather in back of the thorax. You can also trim the feather on the bottom of the thorax if you like.

Makes a good generic dark nymph. It worked well on the Ausable at the last NEC clave held there.
