Capt'n Bob) Materials: (Listed in order of tying sequence) Hook: Size 14 (#1330 Daiichi) Thread: Pearsall’s Gossamer Silk – Lt. Olive Hackle: Gray Hen Hackle tied in behind the eye in the “reverse hackling” method. Abdomen/Body: Olive Mole – touch dubbed on tying silk Thorax: Same as body, but dubbed heavier Head: Tying Silk Comments: I tied this fly on a turned-up-eye hook, as most of the “Flymphs” that I have seen pictured are tied on TUE hooks. This is a 1X short, dry fly hook. I admit, I didn’t utilize the dubbing method Hidy/Leisenring employed. Instead, I touch-dubbed the tying silk, which I like better because it allows for a slimmer body, like most naturals. I believe it still meets the definition of a “Flymph”; "a wingless artificial fly with a soft, translucent body of fur or wool which blends with the undercolor of the tying silk when wet, utilizing soft hackle fibers easily activated by the currents to give the effect of an insect alive in the water." After selecting, preparing, and tying in the hackle, wrap the silk towards the bend in touching turns, stopping between the hook point and the barb. Lightly wax the silk, beginning about ¼” below the hook shank, and about 1 1/2” along the silk. Touch dub the mole (or other selected fur) on the silk, a little heavier at the outward end for the thorax. Wrap the dubbed silk towards the eye in even, touching turns to just behind the hackle, then back about 1/8”, letting the bobbin hang. Wrap hackle back in open turns (about 4) to where the bobbin is hanging. While holding tension on the hackle to the backside of the hook, make a thread wrap over the hackle stem and shank and while wiggling the silk back-and-forth, make a couple of wraps back towards the eye, careful not to catch the hackle barbs. Once the silk is laying in front of the hackle, build a small, neat head, whip finish, and varnish. finis Grey Quill Flymph - William Anderson hook: # 14 orvis 122j 2x thread: uni 8/0 grey tails: dun coq de leon abdomen: hare plus blend touch dubbed over grey hackle quill thorax: hare plus blend hackle: natural partridge Hendrickson Flymph - William Anderson hook: # 14 orvis 122j 2x thread: uni 8/0 rust tails: dun coq de leon abdomen: rabbit/hare plus blend (dubbing loop) thorax: rabbit/hare plus blend hackle: natural partridge Hendrickson Nymph - William Anderson hook: # 14 orvis 122j 2x thread: uni 8/0 rust tails: natural partridge abdomen: rabbit/hare plus blend (dubbing loop) and copper wire rib thorax: rabbit/hare plus blend hackle: natural partridge Honey Dun - Jim Slattery Hook: Thread: grey Hackle: Honey Dun Tail: Honey Dun Rib: Gold Tinsel Body: Hare's Poll Iron Blue Dun Flymph - William Anderson hook: #14 orvis 1523 thread: claret pearsalls gossamer silk tails: blue dun rooster hackle fibers abdomen: natural mole (leisinring method) thorax: natural mole hackle: med dun hen hackle Olive Flymph - Gordon Siess (a.k.a.
