Wiggle Bug

Fly: Henk Verhaar, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: long shank streamer hook, size 1/0
Thread: flat waxed nylon
Tail: buck tail
Ribbing: saddle hackle
Body: chenille
Overbody and swim lip: high density foam such as edgewater foam
Note: This is a Larry Tullis design, basically a woolly bugger with a foam back and swim lip. The foam lip is cut to be about 5 mm thick and 1 cm wide. It can be tapered slightly, from a narrow end to a wider front. The swim lip should be cut at an oblique angle. A hole is made in the lip and pushed over the eye after finishing the rest of the fly. Then the thread is reattached at the rear of the fly and the rear end of the foam is secured and tied off.

Wiggle Adapter: A wiggle bug foam piece can also be tied onto a doubled piece of steel wire with eyes at both ends. If the rear eye is made from two separate loops and left open, it can be easily added to and removed from, large streamer flies to give them a wiggle action.
