Goldhead March Brown

Fly: Goran Grubic, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: standard or long shank nymph, # 14-8
Bead: gold or silver, as big as the hook can take
Thread: 6/0 black or brown
Weight: lead (or substitute) wire, as much as the hook can take
Tail: partridge fibers
Rib: wire or tinsel
Abdomen: mixed natural and pearlescent dubbing
Hackles: partridge

Variations: Alternative name for this fly may be “Goldhead Bird’s Nest”, since it is strongly influenced by that well known nymph tied by Cal Bird. It can be tied with various body colours, my favorites are hare’s ear, olive, dark brown and with Lite-Brite dubbing (peacock and pheasant substitutes) Note: Heavy like a rock and suitable for very deep nymphing.
