Peterson’s Spawning Shrimp

Originator: Peterson, Fly: Ginger Allen, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Mustad 34007 #2
Thread: Shrimp Pink Danville A
Weight: Gold x-small nickel plated dumbells
Butt: Orange McFly foam (my variation, Peterson uses orange yarn)
Eyes: Black glass seed beads mounted on 20 pound mono filament and dipped in epoxy, about one inch long
Feelers: 5 round cream round rubber strands (1.5 inches long) segmented with brown permanent marker, 2 black krystal flash strands (2 inches long)
Horn: Beige craft fur, as long as eyes
Body: 4 inch piece of pearl Gudebrod HT braid
Legs: Rust colored bunny clumps (about 4)

Tying notes:

  1. attach 4 inch piece of pearl Gudebrod HT braid, slightly build up body with thread, tapering to hook eye, wrap pearl braid to half way point and stop. Leave braid tag end parallel to top of hook shank as it will be pulled forward later.

  2. Add rust colored bunny clumps (about 4) to under body covering hook point ending at dumbell eye.

  3. Head: Pull braid forward to hook eye and bind down in back and in front of dumbell, build small thread head, whip finish.
