Mudeye No. 2

Hook: Mustad 79580, size 8
Thread: Black, brown, or olive, 6/0
Body: Thin strip of foam blanket wrapped along hook shank as an underbody, then two strips of 60 pound monofilament, one on each side of hook shank, over wrapped with woven olive and brown floss
Wingcase: Olive raffia, tied in facing forward and then pulled over in last step to form wingcase, coat raffia with head cement or clear nail polish, can color with permanent felt marker
Eyes: 60 pound monofilament, burned
Thorax: Olive chenille or dubbing, I prefer squirrel, don't forget a turn around the eye stalks
Legs: Olive dyed grizzly, webby salt water hackle, 3 to 6 turns

Mudeyes are dragonfly larvae. They can be seen swimming furiously along the surface. I never got a chance to fish this pattern so I'm not sure it will actually work - but it looks good and floats well.
