Barra Deceiver

Fly: Doug Jeffries, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Mustad 34007 or 7766SS, sizes 1/0 – 4/0
Thread: Orange or pink, Danville Flymaster
Weedguard: Twin loops of 20 pound stiff Mason
Tail: A few strands of pearl and pink Krystal Flash extending beyond bucktail and wing, surrounded by white bucktail
Wing: 3 pink and 1 grizzly webby salt water hackles on each side, with natural brown bucktail on top and pinkish orange bucktail on bottom
Gills: Small tuft of red or orange marabou
Eyes: Red plastic eyes, coat entire head with 2 part epoxy

A deceiver version of the Pink Thing tied with plastic eyes. Tie these extra full if fishing at night or in dark water. The weedguard allows you to cast it right back into the mangroves and then work it out past the barras waiting in ambush.
