Bernd Geier

My name is Bernd Geier. I was born in 1956 in Grieshein, near Darmstadt, Germany.

I started flyfishing at the age of 23 after I saw a flyfisherman in action while I was looking down from a bridge in the lovely town of Steyer in Austria, where the rivers Enns and Steyer come together. It was wonderful to see a wading angler at work, the elegance and effectiveness with which grayling after grayling was brought to hand - words failed me. I was hooked!

It was the start of my personal journey, fishing the long rod exclusively in both fresh and salt water and going after any finned critter even remotely interested in taking my fly.

In September 2002 I qualified as a certified EFFA (European Fly Fishing Association) flycasting instructor.

Next to flyfishing, the tying of flies has evolved as a second hobby/addiction. Through visiting and participating in a number of flyfishing shows, the contact with other tiers and my own entomological research and photography streamside I developed my own patterns and techniques. These patterns have resulted in numerous wonderful hours on the stream and the salt, as also a fair few stunning fish.

Best regards,
Bernd Geier
