Squirral Mayfly Nymph

Fly: Ashley Strutt, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 200 14-24
Thread: yellow uni thread
Tail: fibers from hen pheasant tail feather dyed with turmeric curry powder
Rib: yellow tying thread
Abdomen: same as tail, once the tail is tied in then the fibers can be folded back and used for the body. If the tyer prefers then cut and retie in
Wingcase: same as tail, tie in and fold over as normal then fold back on it self and trimmed to leave small wing stubs
Thorax: Squirrel body hair dyed with turmeric curry powder

Note: The Hen pheasant can be dyed in the same dye bath as the squirrel which helps to give both materials the same shade. Works very well during pale watery mayfly hatches and if tied on a size 12 with a hen pheasant neck hackle it works very well during the E. Danica hatch.
